Little Owl (Athene noctua)

Little Owls (Athene noctua) are charming birds of prey characterized by their compact size. They typically measure around 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 centimeters) in length, with a wingspan ranging from 18 to 24 inches (45 to 61 centimeters). Despite their small stature, these owls exhibit a robust build. On average, they weigh between 5.3 to 7.8 ounces (150 to 220 grams).

With a distinctive appearance featuring a prominent facial disk, bright yellow eyes, and brown-and-white speckled plumage, little owls are native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Their adaptability allows them to thrive in various environments, including farmlands, orchards, and suburban areas. Utilizing their keen vision and sharp talons, they predominantly hunt for insects, small mammals, and birds during the night. Whether perched on fence posts or low branches, these nocturnal hunters contribute to the fascinating diversity of the avian world.
