Owls' Eyes: What Their Color Means

Owls night photography

Owls are mysterious species with many varieties. Some are active at day, some at night and some at both.

We spent weeks to take a successful photo, sometimes in freezing conditions and mostly at night, but it was worthwhile to observe their behavior at first hand.

They are the ultimate hunters, moving like ninjas, flying over their prey undetected.

Owls are fascinating and diverse birds of prey belonging to the order Strigiformes. Renowned for their distinctive facial discs, which enhance sound reception, owls exhibit remarkable adaptations for nighttime hunting. With keen vision and specialized feathers allowing silent flight, they are efficient predators. Owls have a broad global distribution, inhabiting a variety of ecosystems from dense forests to open plains. Their diet primarily comprises small mammals, birds, and insects. Nesting in trees, caves, or burrows, owls often display elaborate courtship rituals and parental care. The varied species, such as the barn owl, great horned owl, and snowy owl, showcase a wide range of sizes, plumage colors, and habitats, contributing to the enchanting diversity of these enigmatic birds.
