Crested Lark (Galerida cristata) **
The Crested Lark (Galerida cristata) is a medium-sized passerine bird widely distributed across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. Recognizable by its distinctive crest, which it raises when alert or displaying, this lark has a sandy-brown plumage with streaked patterns that provide excellent camouflage in dry, open habitats. It thrives in arid landscapes, grasslands, roadsides, and agricultural fields, often seen foraging on the ground for seeds and insects. Unlike some other larks, the Crested Lark is a resident species in many areas, although some populations may show local movements. Its melodic song, delivered both from the ground and during flight, is a characteristic sound of its habitat. Well adapted to human-modified environments, the species has maintained stable populations despite habitat changes, making it one of the more commonly observed larks in its range.
